Farm news updates
Farmers will soon begin spring plantings with seed loans from SHARP. The months of January-March are spent clearing brush and preparing fields. This year they will also be equipped with tools from our tool loan program, and knowledge from the recent training provided by SHARP and the Ministry of Agriculture. We are hoping for the most successful season yet!
Most of the farmers in our agriculture program are illiterate. Education is not available to everyone in Sierra Leone. Lacking literacy skills is very limiting to their lives and traps them in a cycle of poverty. SHARP’s goal is to provide functional and financial literacy classes, giving them the skills to successfully manage their small businesses. Look for updates as we plan to implement an adult literacy program in the future
School News updates
Students at both schools enjoyed a Christmas party with staff and their parents before the Winter Break. Children at Empowering Children School in Freetown entertained their guests with a Nativity play. Afterwards everyone sang carols together. Children at the Newton Village School sang traditional songs as well as Christmas carols. School is back in session at both locations, and we look forward to a successful second semester.
