Empowering Children Schools have amazing, dedicated teachers, and we plan to feature one each month. 

 

This month we meet Aminata Konneh, a teacher at the Empowering Children School in Newton Village. Ibrahim Kamara interviewed Ms. Konneh this week.

 

Ibrahim: Where did you grow up?
Ms. Konneh: I grew up in Mile 91, Tonkolili District, in the Northern Province of Sierra Leone.

 

Ibrahim: Why did you want to be a teacher?

Ms. Konneh: I want to be a teacher to help everyone get an education and to uplift the poor children in my village.

 

Ibrahim: What grade do you teach?

Ms. Konneh: I teach Grade 1 and the nursery preparatory class.

 

Ibrahim: What is your favorite subject to teach?

Ms. Konneh: I love teaching English and Mathematics.

 

Ibrahim: What is your biggest challenge?

Ms. Konneh: My biggest challenge is the poverty in the village and the limited resources we have to keep going.

 

Ibrahim: What advice do you have for new teachers?

Ms. Konneh: My advice is for teachers is to unite and have passion for what they do.

 

Ibrahim: What do you like to do in your time off?

Ms. Konneh: I do agricultural work during my free time and often prepare lesson notes.

 

Ibrahim: Who inspires you?

Ms. Konneh: My love for the children in my community is what inspires me.
