SHARP volunteer and former Empowering Children School student, Kadiatu Korma, recently visited 5th and 6th-grade classes at our Freetown School to talk about what the opportunity for education means to them. All students at Empowering Children School in Freetown pay reduced fees, with approximately 20% attending on full scholarship, based on family needs.
Our students receive a quality education, including technology skills, English fluency, and problem-solving. This makes them very competitive in the job market. About 60% of our students go on to college and pay for their education by working and taking out government loans. Our students are very hopeful for their futures and are motivated to work hard. Each student is very grateful for the opportunity they have been given and values their education.
Ashima is 11 years old and has been attending Empowering Children School on a full scholarship since pre-K. Her favorite subject is math, and she wants to be a doctor. She says that without the scholarship, her family would not be able to pay the school fees. She says, “I am very grateful for this opportunity, and I want to say thank you to SHARP for helping me out with my education.”
Umar is 11 years old and in the 5th grade. Like many of his schoolmates, he also enjoys math and wants to be a doctor one day. Umar says he appreciates the support and so is willing to focus on his education and work hard to achieve his goals. Umar has received the scholarship since pre-K and also receives school supplies, as do most of the students. He says, “I want to appreciate the people who are sponsoring my education. I want to say thank you to SHARP for making things easier for my family.”
Ibrahim is 11 years old and in the 5th grade. His favorite subject is social studies, and he wants to be a soldier one day. Ibrahim has been on a full scholarship since pre-K. He says, “Having this scholarship means I can go to school, and that means so much to me.” Ibrahim also expressed his gratitude to the people who are making his education possible.
Ernestine is 11 years old and in the 6th grade. She has attended Empowering Children Schools on a full scholarship since grade 3. Ernestine also enjoys math and wants to be a doctor one day. Ernestine says her education means a lot to her because she wants to be successful in the future and is very motivated to learn. She says, “This scholarship changed my life. Without it, it would be very difficult for my parents to send me to school or even pay some of my fees.”
Thank you to all of our supporters who help us make the future brighter for these children!
