Teaching guitar to the students

Santiago Aufranc has spent the last few months traveling around Africa and meeting many local people through couch surfing. When in Sierra Leone he stayed in the home of our Executive Director, Ibrahim Kamara. When Santaigo heard about the two Empowering Children Schools and the mission of SHARP, he decided to give each school a musical performance and tell students stories about his travels.

This was wonderful exposure for the students as they don’t often see visitors or get the opportunity to hear about travels and different places. In Newton Village the children had never seen a guitar. Santiago first drew pictures and explained the instrument, then the children got to see and hear it as they sat under a mango tree and sang songs.  Students and teachers enjoyed listening to the music, and singing along. It was a fun event for the children, and they loved the new experience.
