Featured Teacher Interview: Sia Senga

In this month’s feature, Ibrahim Kamara sits down with Sia Senga, one of our dedicated teachers, to learn more about her journey, her passion, and her advice for the next generation of educators.

Ms. Senga teaches preschool at the Freetown Campus of Empowering Children School. Her own house was destroyed by floods in 2024. She is currently living in a building on the school campus with her three children, while she saves enough to rent another house.

Ibrahim Kamara: Can you tell us your name and where you live?

Sia Senga: I live at No. 5 Pump Line, off Wilkinson Road.

Ibrahim: How many are in your family?

Sia: I have three children and myself.

Ibrahim: Where did you grow up?
Sia: I grew up in Congo Town, Freetown.

Ibrahim: Where did you go to school?

Sia: I attended Freetown Secondary School for Girls and later studied at Freetown Teachers College.

Ibrahim: What made you want to be a teacher?
Sia: I have a strong passion for children, and that passion led me to teaching.

Ibrahim: How long have you been teaching?
Sia: I have been teaching for twelve years.

Ibrahim: What is your favorite subject to teach?
Sia: I enjoy teaching English and Religious Studies.

Ibrahim: What do you like most about teaching?
Sia: I love the joy and fun of being with the kids.

Ibrahim: What is your biggest challenge as a teacher?
Sia: Helping children to improve their writing skills is my greatest challenge.

Ibrahim: What do you like to do in your free time?
Sia: I enjoy reading books and watching movies.

Ibrahim: What advice would you give to new teachers?
