Ibrahim Kamara was born in Makonkonday village, a customary and traditional mud blocks and thatch roofs settlement in the woods of the Koya rural district. He fled his village during the civil war in Sierra Leone when he was 9 years old. He was abducted and taken to Freetown by the rebels. Kamara escaped to Freetown, where he founded the Empowering Children and Youth School to ensure that the next generation of children would be empowered to pursue a better life.
